A smart bracelet known as Abrace is currently being crowdfunded via Kickstarter that is capable of predicting the onset of sensory meltdowns in children with autism, giving parents more time to cope with the meltdowns. Statistics show that around 1 in 44 American children have ASD and that it affects over 75 million people worldwide. When a person with ASD experiences a sensory meltdown, they may feel extreme confusion, frustration and even panic. The situation is made even more difficult because the child is often unable to communicate their feelings and thoughts.
When a person experiences stress, a lot of parameters in their body change. These changes affect the electrodermal activity (EDA), which is recorded by a unique sensor. The data from the sensor is processed by artificial intelligence. This algorithm is capable of learning and adapting to a particular human being which allows it to fit almost all people. After analyzing these indicators, AI sends information to a mobile application in real time. A carer can monitor that information and provide the necessary help. Abrace attaches to a child’s wrist, just like a watch, automatically monitoring sensory input levels, without making the child uncomfortable or interfering with their day-to-day life. Abrace team launched a Kickstarter campaign which will last until 31st December and they are waiting for all interested people to help them change the world for the best.
